Summit Backs Sudan's Peace, Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity and Economic Recovery


Khartoum - Arab Summit recently wrapped up in Kuwait voiced in its final communiqué keenness on Sudan's sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-intervention in its domestic affairs. The summit announced support to Sudan's efforts to implement all protocols with S. Sudan, welcoming the peace deal it has signed in Doha with JEM -Sudan last year. All rebel movements were called on by the summit to join the Doha Darfur Peace Document (DDPD) signed in 2011.

At the economic level, the summit urged the international community to meet its pledges to bridge the gap in the Sudanese economy, in addition to encouraging write-off its debts.

The summit communiqué has condemned all forms of terrorism by nipping them in the bud through re-energizing Arab anti- terrorism agreement. Furthermore, the summit reiterated boosting of Arab security to ensure the territorial integrity of Arab countries and enable them to meet internal and external challenges to realize development and cohesive nation-building.

Turning to the recent cracks in the wall of Arab solidarity, the summit seriously pledged to end inter-Arab differences through productive dialogue and reconciliation, stressing on the permanency of Arab solidarity solid core.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the summit looked at it as central to all Arabs, calling for mobilization of efforts for the establishment of a Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital. The summit called on the UNSC to take effective measures to work for bringing about a just peace in the Middle East, holding Israel responsible for stalling the peace process. Turning to the Syrian crisis, the summit called on UNSC and the international community to seek a final solution which ends bloodshed, while welcoming all initiatives targeting reconciliation of all parties to the conflict to ensure Syria's national unity.

The summit communiqué further hailed the developments in Libya, Yemen and Somalia, announcing support to nation-building and development in these countries. Emphasis has also been laid by the summit on United Arab Emirate sovereignty over the three islands disputed over with Iran.
